What are Electronic Health Records?
Electronic Health Records (EHRs) are digital versions of patient medical charts. EHRs are patient-centered records that are updated and shared instantly and securely with authorized users.
Electronic Health Records can provide important insight into a patient’s care and improve care by:
- Storing a patient’s comprehensive medical history including diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and laboratory and test results thereby reducing duplication and delays in future treatment;
- Reducing the incidence of medical error by providing accurate and clear medical records;
- Allowing access to evidence-based tools that can be used to make decisions about a patient’s care;
- Streamlining provider workflow and reducing medical error.
