Motor Vehicle Safety

Motor vehicle-related injuries kill more children and young adults than any other single cause in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). For people of all ages, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death from injury.

What can communities do? 

• Encourage everyone to use seat belts on every trip, no matter how short.
• Understand state laws. PennDOT provides detailed traffic safety information, including Pennsylvania’s seat belt law and car seat recommendations.
• Find child passenger safety technicians in your area to check if your car seat is properly installed or attend a safety event sponsored by a Safe Kids Coalition in your area.
